On Friday, Mayor of Newquay Louis Gardner awarded his Mayor’s Commendation to Mo from Zaman’s Restaurant. During lockdown, Mo personally prepared and delivered over 1500 meals to the keyworkers and vulnerable of Newquay, paid for out of his own pocket. Care homes, Newquay hospital, Cornwall Air Ambulance, Newquay police, pharmacies, doctors surgeries and more all benefitted from Mo’s kindness and generosity.

The Mayor’s Commendation Scheme is a new scheme started by the Mayor himself to recognise an outstanding contribution from individuals, groups or businesses to life in Newquay, particularly during the recent COVID-19 lockdown. It is aimed at those who have gone the extra mile for others within the town, without thought for themselves, often to their own detriment.

Louis Gardner said: “At a time when you saw a huge downturn in your business, you worked excessive hours to life the spirits of the community and support those who were on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic. You and your business are a credit to the town of Newquay.”
